वर्ण व्यवस्था मनुष्य पर ही लागू होती है या पशु पक्षी पर भी?
वर्ण व्यवस्था मनुष्यों पर ही नहीं बल्कि देवताओं पशु पक्षियों पर भी लागू होती है तैतिरिया ब्राह्मण के एक मंत्र के अनुसार सनकादि ऋषि ब्राह्मण वर्ण में आते हैं इंद्र वरुण सोम रुद्र आदि देवता क्षत्रिय वर्ण में आते हैं गणेश और वसु आदि देवता वैश्य वर्ण में आते हैं पूषा आदि देवता शुद्र वर्ण में आते हैं पशुओं में सत्व गुणों के आधार पर ब्राह्मण वर्ग में सिंह बाघ चीता आदि क्षत्रिय वर्ण में गाय भैंस घोड़ा ऊंट आदि वैश्य वर्ण में तथा सूअर सियार आदि शुद्र वर्ण में गिने जाते हैं।
पक्षियों में कबूतर सारस हंस मैना तोता आदि पक्षी ब्राह्मण वर्ण में आते हैं। बाज नीलकंठ आदि पक्षी क्षत्रिय तीतर बटेर मोर यह वैश्य वर्ण में तथा गिद्ध चील कौवा बगुला आदि शूद्रों की श्रेणी में आते हैं।
वृक्षों में देवदार शमी पीपल पलाश तुलसी आदि वृक्षों की गिनती ब्राह्मण वर्ण में की जाती है। रक्त चंदन शीशम सागवान आदि के वृक्षों की गिनती क्षत्रिय वर्ण में की जाती है। बांस बबूल नागफनी आदि के वृक्षों की गिनती शुद्र वर्ण में की जाती है जबकि नीम बरगद आदि वैश्य वर्ण में रखे गए हैं।
वर्ण व्यवस्था पहले जन्मजात थी या कर्म के अनुसार रखी गई थी?
सामान्य तौर पर वर्ण व्यवस्था जन्मजात मानी जाती है परन्तु विद्वानों के अनुसार मनुष्य जन्म के समय शूद्र होता है क्युकी कमर के नीचे वाला भाग शूद्र की श्रेणी में आता है। संस्कारो के फलस्वरूप उसमें ब्रह्मणत्व क्षत्रियत्व अथवा अन्य कोटि के भाव आते है परन्तु जन्म जात विशेषताओं को भी नकारा नहीं का सकता।बहुत पुरानी कहावत है कि खून अपने खून (पुत्र भाई आदि से तात्पर्य )को अपनी ओर प्रभावित करता है।
वैज्ञानिक भी इस बात को मानते है कि वीर्य में वंशागत गुणधर्म पुत्र में पाए जाते है।बाहरी संस्कारो से थोड़ा परिवर्तन हो सकता है परन्तु बालक में उसके माता पिता के गुण विशेष रूप में विद्यमान रहेंगे।परन्तु इसके साथ साथ पहले वर्ण व्यवस्था जन्म जात ना होकर कर्मानुसार रखी गई थी।
